Full time: 37.5 hours/week
Wage: $12.00/hour, depending on funding

Job Description:

We are looking for a highly motivated, goal oriented Communications and Development Officer to join our team for the summer! The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and Program Director to develop and implement strategic communications and marketing initiatives that raise the profile of our Seaquaria in Schools program. The successful candidate will be a team player who works well independently, is capable of maintaining consistent and professional communication with volunteers, community groups, and co-workers, and ideally has some background in marketing and not for profits. We are looking for someone who can think outside the box and is committed to seeing results from their work. Flexibility in the candidate’s schedule is necessary to reflect the dynamic nature of this position.

Position Summary:

The Communications and Development Officer will:

  • Maintain all internal and external communication channels;
  • Implement marketing campaigns and strategies;
  • Seek out new promotional opportunities;
  • Oversee publications and promotional materials to ensure consistency in messaging;
  • Run social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube);
  • Prepare and distribute newsletters and various other factual literature;
  • Develop and maintain website content;
  • Fundraising and grant writing, including preparation of applications and researching new opportunities;
  • Planning of special events and community outreach;
  • Assist the Program Director with volunteer training, management and coordination, and streamlining of volunteer communication protocols and procedures.

Qualifications Required:

  • Student should be working towards a degree or diploma in: Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Community Engagement/Development, Graphic/Website design or a related area;
  • Fundraising experience, with some knowledge of grant writing;
  • Experience in sales and/or marketing;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication;
  • Self starter able to work well independently and see projects through to the end;
  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese considered an asset;
  • Experience coordinating volunteers an asset;
  • Willingness to submit a Criminal Record Check

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
  • Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
  • Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program;
  • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
